IMIZI

Rwanda's first Contextual Intelligence Infrastructure — helping AI understand places through Kinyarwanda landmarks, local descriptions, and lived context.

Context-native understanding — places as Rwandans actually describe them.
Informal descriptions in Kinyarwanda become structured, usable location understanding.
Underlying infrastructure that other AI applications are built on top of.

Context-native understanding — places as Rwandans actually describe them.

1 / 3

A database can confirm that a place exists and return its coordinates. What no existing system can do is understand a Rwandan person describing that place the way they naturally would — by a nearby landmark, an informal neighborhood name, a relative direction, spoken in Kinyarwanda.

IMIZI is ATAS's attempt to build that missing layer.

What IMIZI actually is

IMIZI combines:

  • Rwanda's administrative geography, from the national level down to the village
  • The many everyday names each location actually goes by
  • How those places relate to one another
  • What matters about them in different contexts — healthcare, agriculture, education

The result is infrastructure that turns informal, everyday descriptions of place into structured, usable understanding.

Invisible infrastructure, on purpose

IMIZI is not a public-facing app that a person opens and uses directly. It is meant to be underlying infrastructure that other AI applications are built on top of — invisible to the end user, but foundational to anything that needs to understand where something is happening in Rwanda.

Why it matters

Every serious application we build — starting with AcademiaPlus's own analytics — eventually needs to understand Rwandan geography and context natively. Rather than bolting that understanding onto each product, IMIZI builds it once, properly, as a foundation.

It is currently in active research and development, and represents a long-term investment ATAS is building deliberately, one layer at a time, rather than rushing to complete.
