ATAS

Alliance for Transformative AI Systems — the Rwandan AI research and product company I founded to build AI that genuinely understands Rwanda.

Building AI that understands Rwanda — languages, geography, culture, and everyday realities.
Two distinct tracks — AcademiaPlus in schools today, IMIZI as long-term infrastructure.
Research excellence and practical delivery, treated as one pipeline rather than a tension.

1 / 3

ATAS (Alliance for Transformative AI Systems) is a Rwandan artificial intelligence research and development company based in Kigali, founded in 2025. I started it on a simple conviction: AI that matters for Rwanda has to be built here, from Rwandan needs — not adapted from somewhere else and translated after the fact.

ATAS operates as both a research organization and a product company. It studies the kinds of AI that make real sense for Rwanda — Kinyarwanda language technology, contextual and geographic intelligence, and AI methods that work with limited data — and applies that research to real products people use today.

What ATAS builds

The company's work falls into two clearly distinct tracks:

  • AcademiaPlus — the active product: national curriculum infrastructure for Rwandan secondary education, already well into development and entering its first schools.
  • IMIZI — the long-term research program: an attempt to build Rwanda's first Contextual Intelligence Infrastructure.

A company and one of its projects are not the same thing. In the same way Microsoft is far larger than Windows, ATAS is capable of researching, designing, and building many systems — of which IMIZI and AcademiaPlus are the first two.

Values

Rwanda First. Every research question and product decision starts from Rwandan needs and realities.

Research Excellence. Rigorous standards while building products people actually use — the two are not in tension.

Accessibility for All. For farmers, vendors, students, and rural residents — not just those already comfortable with technology.

Open Collaboration. ATAS means "Alliance." Where it doesn't compromise core work, we share knowledge and collaborate.

Long-Term Commitment. Building lasting AI research capability for Rwanda, not chasing short-term wins.
